So there are no photos to go with this post - for reasons that become clear!
On the 27th Dec we set off for France as Daddy had got free tickets to go over to Calais on the Shuttle. Hotel booked and plans for a simple over night trip made. Drive there was fine, we got as far as the beechs SW of dunkirk and mucked about ther - with some history too. Then it all went a bitt wobbly! In short: Car then broke on Motoway enroute to Hotel - transmission fell apart! Stopped on side of motorway. Helped by two local guys who stopped. Got towed locally. Not covered by my breakdown insurance! Car can't get fixed - it's New year holiday. Stayed overnight in Calais (which is very nice BTW!) then towed onto Ferry first thing next morning. On Ferry Lucy fell over and bangs knee badly (healies!). Car and Lucy limp off boat, call UK rescue - only covered for local pick-up. Fine - all we need is a lift to A&E! Charlie announces he's lost Game boy - probably on ferry. Lucy fine, just bruised. 2 1/2 hour train ride home from Dover via London. Arrive home after 10 at night! No booze, no duty frees. (Mis)adventure which the kids (and I ) enjoyed cos we got to ride in big trucks, ferrys, the tube, taxis and trains! Downloaded photos and then managed to delete them, from PC AND camera! NO images of the trip or from Xmas! Car repair cost me £1000, extra taxis tows in France etc cost another £3-400 on top of that! So much for the 'free' tesco vouchers!
All in all a great adventure (which we are laughing about now!
